PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
LifeNotes for Professional Musicians is a series where musicians network and support each other as we discuss music and life. The sessions are led by music industry professionals, counselors, financial advisors, entertainment attorneys, and health experts. FitNotes is a special LifeNotes program to promote whole health and an active lifestyle. The goal of both programs is to provide resources to help musicians reach their full potential off the stage and on the stage. Events are hosted throughout the year at various locations and online. If you have questions about the programs or want to inquire about us presenting the programs to your private group, please contact us at themusicstandorg@gmail.com or 682-777-4797.
WELLNESS & RECOVERY SUPPORT
Are you having trouble coping with the pressures of life? Are you experiencing feelings of anxiety, depression, isolation, rage, or self-harm? Is substance use causing you to lose control or not show up for work and other obligations? Do you find it difficult to function or perform without substance use? Do you feel substances enhance your mood or performance? Are you noticing changes or a decline in your health?
We are here to say you are not alone. What you feel is real and valid. Musicians are expected to show up and put on a great performance, regardless of what they’re going through at the time. The life of a musician is also plagued by stereotypes and stigmas. History and the media herald the rise and fall of famous musicians — one life after another overcome by circumstances, hurts, and pressures. Other musicians struggle as well, but those stories usually don’t make the news. Sometimes musicians deal with issues in secret and the problems might not be revealed until tragedy occurs. All of this rings true for other artists & creatives.
That doesn’t have to be your story though. All of us deal with mental health challenges throughout our lives. There are many roads to wellness and recovery. The process takes time. You don’t have to walk this journey by yourself because support and resources are available, now more than ever. We want to connect you to a caring community of professionals and peers who want to help you and see you through it all.
If you are looking for help today, please contact our partners at the Association of Persons Affected by Addiction (APAA) to help you find personalized wellness services and support. Call (214) 634-APAA (2722) or Chat Live Now recoveryiswhy.org/live-chat-now. Please let them know you were referred by The Music Stand.
Our friend Joe Powell is a co-founder and the President/CEO of APAA and a pioneer of peer-to-peer recovery support programs. Joe’s path to addiction awareness and recovery advocacy is rooted in his remarkable story about his life in the music business, battles with addiction, and over 30 years of sobriety. We are grateful for Joe’s heart to support professional musicians and the mission of The Music Stand. For more information about APAA, visit recoveryiswhy.org

Special thanks to our partner Tony & his team for preparing 200 carryout lunches. The musicians who came out were blessed. Some even took lunches to deliver to other musicians.
